Bruno Moreschi explains the actions of the Another 33rd São Paulo Biennial project
About the project
Beyond the official discourse, there are other possible ways of understanding the 33rd Biennial. The artist Bruno Moreschi, with the collaboration of researcher Gabriel Pereira, programmer Bernardo Fontes, producer Nina Bamberg and designer Guilherme Falcão created alternative modes of comprehending the exhibition: Artificial Intelligence analysis of the Biennial’s images; audio guide tracks with the commentary of guards, exhibit technicians, and cleaning workers; Biennial text’s extensions; unconventional recordings of the setup; records of the reactions of the public etc. Departing from four purposely broad questions: what is presence today? What do non-experts have to say? What reverberates? And what is left? - this project will constitute an alternative archive to that of the institution and will investigate the stages of creation of the official discourse. Thus, researchers will have access to a material that reveals part of the functioning of the art system and that stimulates experimental research on the 33rd Biennial.
Participants
Bruno Moreschi
Visual artist who works with projects related to the visual arts system, especially to the spaces for the legitimation of art – with an interest in the decoding of the field in question, revealing its procedures and its power games. Moreschi is a senior researcher at the Center for Arts, Design and Social Research (CAD+SR, Boston, USA), and a Capes PhD candidate in visual arts at Unicamp (Campinas), having attended the University of Arts of Helsinki. He is a coordinator of projects that have been recognized by awards and grants such as Rumos Itaú Cultural and Deviant Practice 2018–2019 Van Abbemuseum. He is an invited artist of the 33rd Bienal de São Paulo and general coordinator of the project Another 33rd São Paulo Biennial.

Gabriel Pereira
PhD researcher at Aarhus University (Denmark), visiting PhD researcher at MIT (USA) and a research fellow at the Center for Arts, Design and Social Research (CAD+SR, Boston, USA). He seeks to creatively blend theories of science and technology with artistic practices and methods - with a focus on the infrastructures of data and algorithms. Researcher at the Future Making Consortium, he collaboratively develops the Museum of Random Memory, a series of experiments that reflect on the Big Data we produce in our everyday lives. He is a partner researcher with the project Another 33rd Bienal, coordinating the conceptualization and implementation of the project’s digital actions.

Bernardo Fontes
Computer scientist with a degree from UFF (Rio de Janeiro). He develops an exploration into minimalistic and procedural practice on several fronts; is one of the creators of the collective pessoas.cc; signs as berin e 2bonsai in his works with music tracks; and publishes sketches of computational art created at berinhard.github.io/sketches. He is responsible for the programming work for the site and experiments of the project.

Nina Bamberg
Cultural producer with a degree in performing arts from UDESC (Santa Catarina). She has developed projects in various cultural areas such as the Fórum Mundial de Bienais 2, Cultura Inglesa Festival, Semana Internacional de Música de São Paulo and Parque Gráfico – Feira de Arte Impressa. Nina is responsible for the management of the project's actions and she knows that Brazil is going through a coup d’état.
Guilherme Falcão
Designer and publisher. His practice in design includes publishing and journalism, education, the relation between design and music, as well as the research and production of self-publishing. He is the creator of Zine Parasita (2006-), founder of the publishing press CONTRA (2013–16) and co-founder of A Escola Livre. Since 2016 he is the art director of Nexo Jornal. He is responsible for the design of the project.
